New website online, obviously

Thought I wouldn’t be back? Okay, it did take me a while to come up with a new web page, because I also had to manage my move from Western Germany to the South, which took me from November last year to March. I actually had a different design in mind but working on it turned out to be too time-consuming, so I had to mothball that idea. For the first, that is. Anyway, so this site is a compromise of sorts, as you can tell from its design, but I sure like this modern bitch way better than the last site, and I hope so will you. Maybe I will add more stuff over time.

I know it wasn’t just a new website I kept you waiting with. I’m well aware my last album has turned 8 this summer, and my latest release (We Will Haunt You) dates from 2016. So what happened here? In 2016, I started working as a video game journalist, and growing in the job kept me occupied for at least five years. If learning instruments counts, though, I started working on a new album 27 months now. That’s right, my next bunch of recordings will sound more handmade, even though I’m not too much of an instrumentalist. Anyway, synthetic main instruments just don’t work for what I have in mind. My playing still doesn’t meet my standards, though, so I have to keep practising... for another one or two years, to be honest. Nevertheless, check back every now and then.

Sam’s Journey ready for the NES

Know the little guy up there? Right, it’s Sam from Sam’s Journey, a C64 platforming game in the spirit of the console classics. It was released five years ago and features a long-ass soundtrack by me. I’m telling you this because Sam will come to the Nintendo Entertainment System soon. I actually finished adapting the orignal soundtrack for the NES several years ago, let me check... Wow, this goes back to 2018. Anyhow, meanwhile the other guys in Knights of Bytes have also finished their work on the NES version and even found a publisher that will distribute the game: poly.play

Hooray! So what keeps us from just releasing the damn game already? Well, things are different for us on the NES, as we’re a new developer for this machine. As such, we have no choice but launch a pre-order campaign sometime soon, because producing carts for the NES exceeds our financial ressources. Also, we don’t have any idea of how many carts will be needed for release, so we have to check on that. I will keep you updated on this, however, also consider following the Knights of Bytes on Facebook or check our website from time to time.

Video: Dancing in my Padded Cell

The song Dancing in my Padded Cell originally was supposed to appear on Dreiklang, an album I stopped working on. So it became kind of a single, you can download it here. I’ve also made a cool video for the song.

You may think it was somehow related to EA’s Alice: Madness Returns, but it’s not. I just thought footage of Alice: MR would fit the music quite nicely, and, imo, it does indeed. I do am a fan of American Mc Gee’s work, though.
